1. What is the best sand for laying pavers?
Our Paving Sand, a coarse graded river sand, is the best choice for paver base and jointing as it compacts well and drains freely, reducing the chance of pavers shifting over time. For a firmer compacted base under driveways or high traffic paving, crusher dust is often used underneath the paving sand layer. Ask our team which combination suits your site and soil type.
2. What is the difference between Sydney sand, river sand and brickie sand? [new]
Sydney sand is a fine, versatile washed sand used for rendering, tiling and general purpose work. River sand, our Nepean River paving sand, is coarser and better suited to paving base and drainage. Yellow and white brickie sand are finer, purpose blended sands with strong binding qualities for bricklaying and mortar mixes, with white brickie giving a lighter finish for jobs that need a brighter mortar colour.
3. How much does a tonne of sand cost in Sydney?
Sand in Sydney typically costs between $35 and $120 per tonne depending on the type, with yellow brickie sand at the more affordable end and premium paving and bricklaying sands towards the top. Small 20kg bags of Sydney sand, river sand, yellow brickie and white brickie are also available from $8.90 each for smaller jobs. Ace Landscape & Building Supplies delivers sand daily across the Northern Beaches and North Shore, or you can collect from our Belrose yard.
4. How much sand do I need for my project?
For paving or bedding sand, measure the length and width of the area in metres and multiply by the depth in metres to get cubic metres, then convert to tonnes, as a general guide 1 cubic metre of sand weighs around 1.5 to 1.6 tonnes. For bricklaying, your builder or our team can help estimate sand quantities against your brick or block count. Use our online Quantity Estimator or call our Belrose team and we'll help you order the right amount.
5. What is crusher dust used for?
Crusher dust is a fine, compactable base material used under pavers, concrete slabs, driveways and paths. It compacts down hard to create a stable, well drained base layer, which is why it's popular with both landscapers and builders for foundation work before the finishing layer of sand, gravel or concrete goes down.
6. Do you deliver sand across the Northern Beaches and North Shore?
Yes, we deliver sand across the Northern Beaches, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Hills District and out to Ryde, including areas like Mona Vale, Manly and Dee Why. Same day and next day delivery is available 7 days a week by ute, truck or crane truck for bulka bags on tricky access sites.
7. Can I buy bulk sand in Sydney for a trade or landscaping job?
Yes, we supply bulk sand by the tonne, in loose tipped loads, 25kg bags or large bulka bags for landscapers, builders and developers, alongside our full range of gravel, soil and other building supplies. 8. Can I pick up sand from your yard instead of having it delivered?
Yes, all our sand products can be collected directly from our Belrose yard at 190 Forest Way, open Monday to Saturday 7am to 5pm and Sunday 8am to 3pm. Yard pickup is popular with tradies who want sand the same day alongside crusher dust, blue metal or other materials for the same job.
